Angèle (rising French actress Eye Haïdara, C’est la Vie – MiniFest 2018) is a young undocumented woman from Ivory Coast who lives off small scams on the outskirts of Paris. After being threatened by the gangsters she conned, she decides to hide in a new neighborhood and manages to get hired as a live-in nanny by Hélène (Léa Drucker, Custody – SFFF 2018), the soon to be divorced mother of 10-year-old Arthur. While chatting in the park where the nannies take the kids after school, Angèle discovers that most of them are being taken advantage of by their employers. Although she is supposed to be keeping a low profile, she sets out to help them, in hilarious ways, soon enlisting a young lawyer (Ahmed Sylla) who is charmed by her self-confidence.

The Nannies is a romantic comedy rooted within a story reflecting current social issues such as inequality and racism. The film uses humor to talk about the economic mistreatment and denial of workers’ rights faced by immigrant women. A feel good – but not too good – film, full of laughs and emotions, centered by the virtuoso performance of Eye Haïdara.

REVIEWS

A moving and endearing social comedy that awakens consciences.
C News

Eye Haïdara is in every shot and her sense of rhythm, her devouring energy that mixes humor and sensuality, are enough to make “The Nannies” worth the watch.
