Everybody has always loved Jeanne (the irresistible Blanche Gardin, Delete History – SFFF 2021). These days, she hates herself, and her inner voice – personified as a whimsical animated character – doesn’t let her forget it! Feeling professionally defeated and up to her ears in debt, she heads to Lisbon, Portugal, to sell the apartment of her recently deceased mother. At the airport, she runs into Jean (Laurent Lafitte, Elle), a slightly odd and intrusive yet endearing former classmate. She cannot remember him, but he is clearly still under the spell of the popular girl she was in high school.

Yesterday, Jeanne was hailed as a humanitarian and green warrior. That was before the spectacularly humiliating failure of the ocean-cleaning machine she invented. How can she not be touched by Jean’s genuine sweetness and appreciation when she has become a joke in the eye of the world she wanted to save?

Original and inventive, funny and touching, Everybody Loves Jeanne is Céline Delvaux’s first feature after three animated shorts (including the César winner Sunday Lunch – Winter Shorts Fest 2016). Jeanne’s avatar was drawn and is voiced by the director herself.

Beyond this unique animated flourish, the film features the undeniable charm of Gardin and Lafitte. These SFFF favorites never fail to entertain, with Lafitte in particular showing his uncanny range with this and previous roles in See You Up There – MiniFest 2018, Papa ou maman 1 & 2 – SFFF 2016 & 2017, Number One Fan – SFFF 2015, and Bright Days Ahead – SFFF 2014.

Everybody Loves Jeanne won the Best Non-U.S. Release Award from the Online Film Critics Society this year and we are excited to bring this quirky comedy gem to Sacramento!

REVIEWS

Céline Devaux's feature debut ... is wild, hilarious, sweet, and chaotic: a delightful anti-rom-com.
Alex Heeney - Seventh Row

Such is the delight of Everybody Loves Jeanne; it manages to make the grounded reality of our daily existence so deeply relatable, while actively exposing the farcical elements.
Andrew F. Peirce - The Curb
