ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Hello, my name is Jermaine Tilson. I am an abstract artist, and I am from many different places, but to me, home is California. I've been an artist since the age of 6, and I am self-taught. In my life I have never taken an art class to get me where I'm at. I’ve put in hard work, sweat, and tears, coming from a very hard background. Through it all I’ve put my heart and emotions into my artwork to perfect it. I shape my art and it puts me where I need to be. I've grown up in foster care, and I use my life experience to craft a healthy lifestyle to live a life where things are clearer and woke. The type of art I do is mixed media abstract art. I intend to make a positive impact on foster youth and former foster youth. I want to give them a positive influence and inspiration, as well as teach them that there are other ways to make it out and live positively, even when things are hard. You have to hustle hard to make your dreams a reality. I'm currently living in Sacramento, California, in a transitional housing program for aged out foster youth. I was born in Newport, Rhode Island, but raised 12 years of my life in Providence. I've been around a lot of different places, but my dream goal is to travel on tour around the world with my art.
