REVIEWS

A highly polished, widely appealing big-budget French movie (...) Samba offers earnest progressive messaging in a broadly appealing package. Peter Debruge - Variety

There are no weak links in the cast and Tahar Rahim is good value as a bubbly Brazilian, willing to package himself as an "exotic" to get on. Charlotte O'Sullivan - This is London

Samba is the surer-footed endeavour: for once in popular cinema, the problems of the First World come in second behind those of the Third. Mike McCahill - Daily Telegraph

Some very big themes are given space to breathe in this remarkably naturalistic drama, which is livened up by terrific central performances... Rich Cline - Contactmusic.com

Samba (Omar Sy, Jurassic World, Intouchables, Mood Indigo – this year at the SFFF) a Senegalese illegal immigrant who has managed to stay off the books for ten years while closing in on his dream of becoming a chef. When the authorities finally catch up to him, he meets Alice (Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jacky in the Kingdom of Women – this year at the SFFF), a senior executive who has recently undergone a burnout and seeks comfort by volunteering at an immigration center. Their unlikely encounter leads to a bumpy love story as they race to avoid Samba’s deportation…

Sy and Gainsbourg brilliantly portray, respectfully, the shy Samba and the disoriented Alice. But Wilson (Tahar Rahim, A Prophet), a fellow "Brazillian" illegal immigrant who accompanies Samba in a series of thankless jobs, steals the show!  You are not soon to forget his hilarious reenactment of the Diet Coke ad featuring window cleaners!

Samba, the latest film by the directing duo who brought us the international hit Intouchables, combines humor and tenderness to tell its topical story.
